Animal Control Services/By-Laws
The Corporation of the Townships of Alnwick/Haldimand and Township of Hamilton, the Corporation of the Town of Cobourg and the Municipality of Port Hope are collectively partnering a Joint Animal Control Services Program. The Joint Animal Control Services Program offers animal pickup services for domestic animals (dogs and cats) within the four municipalities' catchment area. Similarly, the Township of Hamilton operates the Shelter of Hope Animal Services facility located at 2363 Threate Road South, on behalf of the Joint Animal Services partners within the same catchment area. The Shelter may be contacted by telephone at (905) 885-7808. REGULAR HOURS OF OPERATIONS OF THE SHELTER FACILITY:
Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon
Sundays and Statutory Holidays: Closed
PLEASE NOTE: The Shelter hours of operation have changed from Regular Hours to Winter Hours as of Monday, October 28, 2013, and are as follows:
Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Closed Sundays and holidays
Animal Control services remain the same continuing to receive calls up to 5:00 p.m. Emergency calls only after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends and holidays.
The Shelter returns to Regular Hours on March 28, 2014.
2017 LICENSE FEES
The Joint Animal Services Board of Management, represented by the participating municipalities mentioned above, have established a streamlined approach to the purchase and sale of dog tags. All four municipal partners will be running their dog tag programs in accordance with the calendar year. Dog tags are sold at your local municipal office in your respective municipality. The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand dog tags are available at the municipal office in Grafton and at the satellite office at the Alnwick Civic Centre. The following 2017 Fees are applicable:
Tags Sold between Jan. 1, 2017 to Feb. 28 2017
- Natural Animals (not spayed or neutered) - $15.00
- Spayed or Neutered Animals - $10.00
Tags Sold after Feb. 8, 2017
- Natural Animals (not spayed or neutered) - $20.00
- Spayed or Neutered Animals - $15.00

- Replacement tags - $2.00
