Welcome to the Alnwick/Haldimand Community Policing Committee web page!
In 1995, under the auspices of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Northumberland Cobourg Detachment, a small group of committed Haldimand residents voluntarily started the Haldimand Community Policing Committee (HCPC), meeting at the new OPP detachment in Cobourg.
Meetings are held on a monthly basis, and chaired by a member elected at annual elections. An OPP officer is assigned as a liaison between the Committee and the OPP.
In the rear of the “Immel House”, the east wing of the Grafton Township offices, the Township provided an unused room, which the founding members gutted and refurbished for their needs with donated materials, to be used as a policing Committee meeting room.
As Haldimand Township and Alnwick Township moved towards amalgamation, 1 volunteer with the Alnwick-Alderville CPC joined Haldimand CPC, and the Alnwick/Haldimand Community Policing Committee (AHCPC) was created in 2001. A Charter for the AHCPC was created in 2003 and revised in 2005 and 2016.
By this time, membership had also grown, outgrowing its regular meeting office in the Grafton Township offices. Committee meetings are now rotated monthly between the Council chambers in the Grafton Township offices and Fenella Hall. The Grafton office is retained as the Committee’s business office.
In 2007, Alnwick/Haldimand Township struck an ATV Bylaw Committee, of which an AHCPC volunteer was a member. In 2008 the Township passed a temporary one year ATV Bylaw. By-Law No. 50-2009, to permit the operation of All Terrain Vehicles on any Highway within A/H Township, became permanent on July 2, 2009.
Presentations and Information sessions the AHCPC have organized include:
- ATV Road Safety and Bylaws and ATV use in the Northumberland Forest
